Privacy Policy

We built JourneyLog to help you remember your trips — not to harvest your data. Here's exactly what we collect, why, and how it's protected.

Last updated: April 2026

Who we are

JourneyLog is developed and operated by Kellian Labs, based in Perth, Western Australia. This policy applies to the JourneyLog iOS app and the website at kellianlabs.com.

We are subject to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We take those obligations seriously.

What we collect

We collect only what's needed to make the app work:

  • Account information — your email address when you sign up.
  • Trip and check-in data — trip names, stop names, dates, ratings, and notes you create in the app.
  • Photos — photos you choose to attach to check-ins. These are uploaded to secure cloud storage.
  • Location data — your GPS coordinates at the moment of check-in, used to identify the place you're at. We do not track your location continuously or in the background.

We do not collect advertising identifiers, run analytics, sell your data, or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.

App permissions

JourneyLog requests the following device permissions:

Location (while using app)
Camera

Location is only accessed when you tap "Check In" — it is used to identify the place you're stopped at and is not collected in the background.

Camera is only activated when you choose to add a photo to a stop. Photos are stored on your device and optionally synced to your account.

You can revoke either permission at any time in iPhone Settings → JourneyLog. Revoking location means you'll need to name stops manually; revoking camera means you won't be able to take new photos from within the app.

How data is stored

Your data is stored in two places:

  • On your device — a local database keeps your trips available offline. This data stays on your iPhone unless you delete the app.
  • In the cloud — when you're signed in and connected, your data syncs to Supabase, a secure cloud database provider. Supabase infrastructure is hosted on AWS in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256).

Photos are stored in a private Supabase storage bucket. Only you can access your photos — they are not publicly accessible.

Sharing your data

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except:

  • Supabase — our cloud infrastructure provider, who processes data on our behalf under a data processing agreement.
  • Google Gemini API — when you check in to a place, the place name is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a short description. No personal information (name, email, location coordinates) is included in this request.
  • Legal requirements — if required by Australian law or a valid court order.

The "Share Trip" feature in the app generates an image on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers when you share — the share sheet uses Apple's native sharing and is entirely under your control.

Retention & deletion

Your data is retained for as long as you have an account. You can delete individual trips, stops, and photos from within the app at any time.

To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at hello@kellianlabs.com with the subject line "Delete my account". We will process your request within 30 days and confirm by email when it's done.

Children

JourneyLog is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Complain about how we've handled your information

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@kellianlabs.com. We'll respond within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
